North end of the southwestern and southeastern arms (transect from Chipoka to Makanjila), Lake Malawi, 98–100 m.
Biotope:
Deep-water habitat over mud sediments. Depth distribution is mainly 60–150 m (overall reported range about 30–150 m),
with captures in shallower water being rare.
Geographic distribution:
Lake-wide distribution in Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size:
Up to 13.7 cm standard length (about 17 cm total length).
Special notes:
A true deep-water species that is only exceptionally recorded in depths below 60 m.
Conservation status has been assessed as Least Concern (LC); no species-specific threats are known,
though demersal trawl fisheries may impact local populations in some areas.
