Deep-water habitat. Collected at approximately 90 m depth.
Substrate is presumed to be soft and muddy, typical of deep
areas of Lake Malawi.
Geographic distribution:
Only known from deep water off Monkey Bay,
southeastern arm of Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size:
Approximately 7 cm total length.
Diet:
Unknown. Likely feeds on small soft-bodied invertebrates
living in deep muddy substrates.
Breeding:
Unknown. Males in breeding coloration show 5–6 dark vertical
bars beneath the dorsal fin, a yellow-spotted dorsal fin with
white lappets tipped in black, black pelvic fins, a yellowish
caudal fin, and a broad black margin on the anal fin with pale
egg-spots. A black stripe runs through the eye.
Special notes:
A very small, slender deep-water Aulonocara distinguished by
its ventrally positioned mouth and flat lower profile.
One of the smallest members of the genus and only known
from preserved specimens collected at great depth.
