Intermediate habitat between rocks and sand; typically found at depths around 12 m
Geographic distribution:
Confirmed around Likoma Island; similar but unexamined forms reported near Cobwé (Mozambique) and Undu (Tanzania)
Typical adult size:
Males up to about 14 cm in the lake (up to ~16 cm in aquarium); females up to about 12 cm
Sexual dimorphism:
Breeding males show a yellow breast and a narrow yellow marginal band in the anal fin. Females and immature males lack breeding coloration and remain more subdued

Minimum 500 litres
Aquarium setup:
Minimum aquarium length 150 cm. Large open sandy areas combined with a few larger rocks; emphasis on open swimming space

Moderately aggressive; territorial behavior mainly expressed by breeding males
Special notes:
Distinctive within the Copadichromis mbenjii group by having only two lateral body spots. Previously known in the hobby as Copadichromis sp. “Likoma Blue”
