Genus: Copadichromis
Biotope: Open water close to rocky habitats.
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi; known from Nkanda and Makonde (Tanzania).
Typical adult size: Up to about 17 cm
Sexual dimorphism: Males develop a dark blue to bluish-black body with a distinct yellow to golden blaze on the head; females and juveniles are silvery-grey and lack intense coloration.
Recommended aquarium size: Minimum 300 litres; aquarium length at least 110 cm
Aquarium setup: Large open swimming areas with sandy substrate and scattered rock formations; emphasis on swimming space.
Diet: Planktivore; feeds on plankton in the open water column.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder; males establish temporary territories during spawning.
Aggression: Generally peaceful; males may show territorial behaviour during breeding.
