Males grow larger and show more intense coloration; females remain smaller and less colorful.
Recommended aquarium size:
Minimum 300 liters.
Aquarium setup:
Aquarium should be at least 120 cm in length. Large open sandy areas are essential,
interrupted by a few larger rocks, while leaving wide sandy spaces between rock structures.
Diet:
Carnivorous; feeds mainly on plankton and small aquatic organisms.
Breeding:
Maternal mouthbrooder. One male should be kept with 2–3 females; larger groups with
multiple males are possible if each male has access to several females.
Aggression:
Mildly aggressive within the species; generally peaceful towards other non-aggressive cichlids.
Special notes:
Can be kept with peaceful species such as Aulonocara, other Copadichromis,
and suitable Labidochromis species.
