Pseudotropheus sp. 'polit tumbi' Tumbi Point
Genus: Pseudotropheus
Biotope: Rocky habitat with preference for dark caves at depths between 10–30 m.
Geographic distribution: Restricted to Tumbi Point, Mozambique, Lake Malawi.
Sexual dimorphism: Females are light purple-brown without vertical bars; males are territorial and capable of rapid color change during display or disturbance.
Diet: Feeds by nipping aufwuchs from the rocks using small mouths equipped with bicuspid teeth arranged in a wide U-shaped jaw.
Breeding: Territorial males defend caves; females are non-territorial.
Aggression: Small but aggressive; males patrol and defend territories.
Special notes: Resembles Pseudotropheus sp. ‘polit’ in appearance but is geographically isolated at Tumbi Point.
