Placidochromis macroceps
Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Lukoma Bay, Lake Malawi, Tanzania
Biotope: Deep-water habitats deeper than 50 m, associated with subdued light conditions.
Geographic distribution: Lukoma Bay, Tanzania
Typical adult size: Deep-water Placidochromis species are generally small, with most remaining under 10 cm standard length.
Special notes: Placidochromis macroceps is included in group 3 of the deep-living Placidochromis assemblage, a set defined by species possessing 14–24 gill rakers. It is distinguished within this group by having a larger head than the other members. The deep-water Placidochromis represent a distinct assemblage inhabiting and breeding in dimly lit depths beyond accessible shallow waters.
