Type locality: Mid-North station, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, living and breeding in subdued light; species of this assemblage generally display a bottom-dwelling habitus.
Geographic distribution: Station: Mid North, Malawi.
Typical adult size: Not specified; deep-water Placidochromis species are generally small, most under 10 cm standard length.
Special notes: Placed by Hanssens (2004) in group 3 of the deep-water Placidochromis assemblage, a set of species recorded from depths greater than 50 m. Members of this group are treated as sharing a generally similar barred melanin pattern, while diagnostic morphology varies among species.
