Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Off Monkey Bay, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, forming part of the deep-living Placidochromis species flock composed of bottom-dwelling taxa with predominantly vertical barring.
Geographic distribution: Restricted to the southern half of Lake Malawi, collected at Nkhotakota and along the transect between Mazinzi and Kadango (SE Arm) in Malawi, and at Chiwanga Bay in Mozambique.
