Genus: Otopharynx
Biotope: Sandy areas of the intermediate habitat at a depth of about 35 m.
Geographic distribution: Boadzulu Island, Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size: Males up to about 17 cm total length; females up to about 13 cm total length.
Sexual dimorphism: Breeding males show an orange hue over most of the flanks and a blue head; females are considerably smaller.
Breeding: Territorial males defend the upper surfaces of low rocks; no spawning sites were observed on the sand.
Aggression: Males are territorial.
Special notes: Restricted to Boadzulu Island, which lies within the National Park and is not accessible to fish collectors.
