Intermediate habitat; observed in sediment-rich rocky areas.
Geographic distribution:
Southeastern shoreline of Lake Malawi between Gome (Malawi) and Nkolongwe (Mozambique).
Sexual dimorphism:
Females are yellow and, at least in southern populations, show a black submarginal band
in the dorsal fin. North of Meponda the female coloration fades to silver-beige.
Special notes:
Occurs sympatrically with Tropheops sp. ‘yellow gular’, whose males are almost identical.
The two species are primarily distinguished by female coloration.
