Genus: Placidochromis
Biotope: Sandy substrates along the Mozambique coast, recorded at depths of about 25 m.
Geographic distribution: Lumessi and Chiofu, Mozambique, Lake Malawi.
Feeding: Feeds by dipping its snout into soft substrate and extracting invertebrates from the material collected; attracted to stirred-up sediment but not observed following large sand-grubbing cichlids.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder; males are non-territorial, and courtship can be observed in the same areas where females forage and brood.
Special notes: Electra-type species sharing the opportunistic feeding niche of Placidochromis electra but differing geographically and ecologically from other forms of the group.
