Genus: Copadichromis
Type locality: Chizumulu Island, Lake Malawi
Biotope: Open water habitat; occurs mainly in pelagic zones close to rocky shores at depths of approximately 10–12 m
Geographic distribution: Endemic to Chizumulu Island, Lake Malawi
Typical adult size: Males up to about 16 cm; females up to about 10 cm
Recommended aquarium size: Minimum 400 litres; aquarium length at least 160 cm
Aquarium setup: Provide extensive open swimming space with minimal obstruction; structure should favor open water rather than dense rockwork. Best kept as one male with 2–3 females
Diet: Omnivorous; feeds mainly on plankton in the water column
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder; males establish territories in open areas where spawning takes place
Aggression: Mildly aggressive within the species; generally a peaceful utaka suitable for calm community setups
Special notes: Member of the Copadichromis mbenjii group; distinguished by a supra-pectoral spot markedly larger than the supra-anal spot and by a blue breast with a narrow yellow marginal band in the anal fin in breeding males. Previously known in the hobby as Copadichromis sp. 'chizumulu blue'
