Eastern side of the Nankumba Peninsula from Otter Point to Nkhudzi,
Lake Malawi.
Sexual dimorphism:
Females are light beige with an orange-yellow anal fin. Males are dark,
often blue-brown with rusty orange coloration concentrated on the shoulders;
in some populations males may appear almost entirely dark.
Special notes:
This species closely resembles Tropheops romandi and has previously
been confused with Tropheops gracilior. It has not been recorded from
Mazinzi Reef or from reefs deeper than 5 m around the Nankumba area.
