Along the Mozambique and Malawi shorelines between
Tumbi Point and Chimwalani Reef.
Sexual dimorphism:
Males have a blue body with yellow coloration on the
lower parts of the head and body. Females differ from
those of Tropheops sp. ‘gome yellow’, which have a
black submarginal band in the dorsal fin.
Special notes:
Member of the black-type group. In the southeastern
shoreline it occurs sympatrically with Tropheops sp.
‘gome yellow’, from which it is mainly distinguished
by female coloration.
