Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Lake Malawi.
Biotope: Shallow waters with sandy substrates and dense swards of Vallisneria vegetation.
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi, with records centred on the Nkhotakota area along the central western shore.
Typical adult size: Up to 12.0 cm SL.
Diet: Small invertebrates and diatoms, obtained by sifting sandy substrates and grazing aufwuchs associated with Vallisneria.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder.
Aggression: Peaceful.
Special notes: Distinguished by very large eyes relative to head size, with eye diameter approximately 2.5 times in head length.
