Genus: Mylochromis
Biotope: Intermediate habitat around Likoma Island.
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi; found only at and around Likoma Island.
Diet: Feeds on insect larvae and crustaceans picked from debris-laden crevices in rocks or from accumulated organic debris at the base of rocks where they meet the sand.
Breeding: Breeds in shallow water, forming leks of about 25 breeding males. Each male maintains a small sandy bower approximately the length of the male, sometimes demarcated by small stones. Displaying males remain very close to the spawning dish.
Special notes: Morphologically very similar to Mylochromis mollis but with more developed lips, which in some individuals form a pointed snout. The upper snout profile is often straight and more pointed than in Mylochromis mollis. It occurs sympatrically with M. mollis at Likoma Island.
