Sandy bottom in a bay at Liuli, at about 15 m depth.
Geographic distribution:
Known from Liuli (Tanzania), Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size:
Estimated maximum total length of about 16 cm.
Sexual dimorphism:
Females are described as silvery with a diagonal stripe.
Breeding:
Males build very large bowers in about 15 m of water, with a bower height of
about 40–50 cm and a spawning dish around 75 cm in diameter; the base of the
structure can exceed 1 m in diameter. Mouthbrooding individuals have been seen
over the sand around the bowers. Females are described as silvery with a diagonal
stripe.
Special notes:
An undescribed Taeniolethrinops referred to as Taeniolethrinops sp.
‘furcicauda liuli’.
