Genus: Labidochromis
Type locality: Maleri Island, Lake Malawi.
Biotope: Rocky littoral zones; benthopelagic environments over sandy and rocky substrates.
Geographic distribution: Restricted to the rocky littoral zones around the Maleri Islands and Thumbi West Island in southern Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size: Up to 6.7 cm standard length.
Sexual dimorphism: Less pronounced; males may develop a subtle mauve or blue-purple tinge, while females remain paler and duller.
Diet: Filamentous algae, loose aufwuchs, and small benthic invertebrates scraped from rock surfaces.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder; females incubate eggs and early larvae in the buccal cavity for about 21 days.
Aggression: Peaceful temperament; males show weak territoriality in their habitats.
