Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Lake Malawi.
Biotope: Shallow sandy and intermediate habitats during the breeding season, with seasonal movement to deeper levels outside the breeding period.
Geographic distribution: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Recorded from Cape Maclear, the east coast near Masinje, Likoma Islands, and Senga Bay.
Typical adult size: Up to 14.5 cm total length.
Diet: Feeds on invertebrates.
Special notes: Seasonally present in shallow habitats only during breeding.
