Genus: Melanochromis
Biotope: Sediment-free rocky habitat.
Geographic distribution: Eastern shore of Lake Malawi between Mala Point and Mbweca in Mozambique.
Diet: Omnivorous. Exploits a broad range of available food sources and occupies ecological niches comparable to those of M. loriae and M. melanopterus in areas where these species are absent.
Special notes: An undescribed form resembling M. loriae but smaller and more slender in body shape. Occurs in an area where neither M. melanopterus nor a species with similar behavior has been observed. It appears to occupy the ecological roles of both species in this region.
