Genus: Lethrinops
Biotope: Sandy environments of the intermediate zones, living above sand bottom close to rocky areas.
Geographic distribution: Found near a reef in the neighbourhood of Mdoka, Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size: Up to 13 cm (male) / 10 cm (female) in the lake. In aquarium conditions males may reach up to 15 cm.
Sexual dimorphism: Males grow larger than females.
Aquarium setup: Large aquarium with plenty of open swimming space. Best kept with multiple females.
Diet: Feeds on invertebrates sifted from the sand in the wild. In the aquarium accepts a wide variety of foods, including spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp–peas mix.
Aggression: Peaceful cichlid. Best kept with other calm species from similar environments; mbuna are generally too aggressive.
