Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Lake Malawi [Lake Nyasa]
Biotope: Bays near the shoreline.
Typical adult size: 14 cm
Recommended aquarium size: 400 L
Aquarium setup: Use a fine sand substrate. Break up open sand areas with a few larger rocks, while still leaving plenty of open sandy space.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feeds on various invertebrates, small crustaceans, and insect larvae it searches for in the sand.
Aggression: Peaceful both within the species and towards other species. Due to low intraspecific aggression, multiple males in a group often show coloration.
Special notes: The Catalog of Fishes and the IUCN Red List treat this taxon as a junior synonym of Lethrinops marginatus. On malawi.si, however, this taxon is treated as a valid species.
