Intermediate habitat; rocky areas interspersed with sand in sediment-rich and intermediate
zones.
Geographic distribution:
Endemic to Mumbo Island.
Sexual dimorphism:
Females show narrow bars and a black band in the dorsal fin; males are described as
territorial.
Diet:
Grazes on algal biocover (aufwuchs), selecting relatively sediment-free patches and
nibbling/jerking algae from rock surfaces.
Special notes:
Belongs to the romandi group within Tropheops. Members of this group are characterized
by a black band in the dorsal fin and narrow bars in females. It is regularly found
deeper than 10 m.
