Genus: Maylandia
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi around the three Maleri Islands, where the species occurs in large numbers.
Sexual dimorphism: Males and females show more or less the same coloration pattern, with no clear external sexual dimorphism reported.
Special notes: This undescribed species has previously been assigned to Pseudotropheus but is currently placed in Maylandia. It does not fit clearly into any of the recognized mbuna groups within the genus. The intensity of yellow coloration on the head varies within the population and appears to be most pronounced in individuals originating from sediment-rich environments.
