Tribe / Genus: Maylandia
Biotope: Intermediate habitat.
Geographic distribution: Masimbwe Island, south of Likoma Island, Lake Malawi.
Sexual dimorphism: Females are dark blue-brown and possess a black band in the anal fin.
Diet: Feeds on plankton in the water column and browses loose aufwuchs from the rocks, with aufwuchs browsing occurring more frequently than in Maylandia pulpican.
Special notes: This species shows a close affinity to Maylandia pulpican but is distinctly larger. It occurs in the intermediate habitat at Masimbwe and represents a localized kingsizei-type mbuna population.
