Genus: Tropheops
Biotope: Sediment-rich habitats, including vegetated biotopes and areas with sediment-covered rocks.
Geographic distribution: Northwestern coast from Usisya to Ngara, and eastern shoreline between the Ruhuhu River (Tanzania) and Mbweca (Mozambique).
Diet: Feeds in typical Tropheops fashion by tearing filamentous algae from the substrate, including both plant leaves and rocks.
Aggression: Males defend territories among sediment-covered rocks in the vicinity of aquatic plants.
Special notes: Resembles Tropheops novemfasciatus and was previously misidentified as that species in early collections. Despite its extensive range, geographical variation is minimal.
