Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Nkhotakota, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, in subdued light; species of this flock generally show a bottom-dweller habitus.
Typical adult size: Not specified; deep-water Placidochromis species are generally small, most under 10 cm standard length.
Special notes: Member of Hanssens’ group 3 within the deep-water Placidochromis assemblage, characterized by 14–24 gill rakers. P. minutus is distinguished within this group by having 24 gill rakers, whereas the other species have 19 or fewer.
