Males are blue-barred with a black submarginal band in the dorsal fin,
fitting the chilumba-type group. Females are usually silvery-beige
without markings, though some individuals show broad bars reminiscent
of the sand group.
Diet:
Feeds on aufwuchs, tearing off filamentous algae by vigorous shaking
movements of the body.
Special notes:
Member of the chilumba-type group. It is the only representative of the
complex at Taiwanee Reef. The species has a somewhat elongate body
and resembles Tropheops sp. ‘higga’ in size and general appearance.
