Genus: Chindongo
Biotope: Rocky habitat. Occurs among small to medium-sized rocks, often with adjacent sandy patches.
Geographic distribution: Mozambique coast of Lake Malawi. Local form related to the Chindongo minutus complex.
Typical adult size: Small-sized mbuna. Males up to about 7 cm, females slightly smaller.
Sexual dimorphism: Males are more intensely blue and slightly larger. Females are duller, brownish-grey, with shorter fins.
Recommended aquarium size: 200 L.
Aquarium setup: Provide abundant rockwork with many crevices and caves. Sandy areas between rocks are beneficial. Can be kept in small groups to distribute aggression.
Diet: Herbivorous. Feeds mainly on aufwuchs, including algae and associated microorganisms.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder.
Aggression: Moderately aggressive within the species. Generally tolerant toward other small to medium-sized mbuna.
Special notes: Undescribed Mozambique form closely related to Chindongo minutus.
