Previous pageNext pagePlacidochromis sp. 'electra boadzulu' Boadzulu Island
Genus: Placidochromis
Biotope: Sandy habitats around Boadzulu Island, occasionally near rocks, generally in shallow water and rarely found deeper than 10 m.
Geographic distribution: Boadzulu Island, southern Lake Malawi (Malawi).
Sexual dimorphism: Males completely blue in breeding coloration; females grey-yellow with up to 12 very narrow vertical bars on the flanks.
Feeding: Opportunistic feeder attracted to stirred-up sediment; wanders continuously through the habitat and does not remain at one site for extended periods.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder with internal fertilization, consistent with other members of the electra species group.
Special notes: Probably conspecific with Turner’s Placidochromis “longimanus Chirombo”, though occurring shallower than that form, which was collected at depths of 20–50 m.
