Sandy habitats around Boadzulu Island,
occasionally near rocks, generally
in shallow water and rarely found
deeper than 10 m.
Geographic distribution:
Boadzulu Island, southern
Lake Malawi (Malawi).
Sexual dimorphism:
Males completely blue in breeding
coloration; females grey-yellow
with up to 12 very narrow vertical
bars on the flanks.
Feeding:
Opportunistic feeder attracted to
stirred-up sediment; wanders
continuously through the habitat
and does not remain at one site
for extended periods.
Breeding:
Maternal mouthbrooder with
internal fertilization, consistent
with other members of the electra
species group.
Special notes:
Probably conspecific with Turner’s
Placidochromis “longimanus Chirombo”,
though occurring shallower than
that form, which was collected at
depths of 20–50 m.
