Tribe / Genus: Maylandia
Biotope: Rocky habitat at greater depths, around 30 meters.
Geographic distribution: Known only from the Masimbwe Island, south of Likoma Island.
Sexual dimorphism: Males are very dark blue-black with narrow blue bars. Females are brown.
Diet: Observed combing algae from rocks, using a feeding mechanism matching that of other members of Maylandia.
Special notes: This species resembles the previously discussed M. sp. ‘taiwan’ form but is restricted to Masimbwe Island.
