Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Wissman Bay, Lake Malawi, Tanzania
Biotope: Deep-water zones below about 50 m, where light levels are markedly reduced.
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi
Typical adult size: Deep-water Placidochromis are predominantly small, with most species remaining under 10 cm standard length.
Special notes: This species is part of the deep-water Placidochromis assemblage that occurs beyond accessible shallow habitats and is associated with life and reproduction in dimly lit depths. In Hanssens’ grouping of deep-living Placidochromis, it is placed in group 4 and is separated from other members of that group by a relatively longer snout.
