Genus: Mylochromis
Biotope: Sandy habitat; territorial males defend cleared sites among rubble on the bottom, usually adjacent to small rocks or other solid objects.
Geographic distribution: Occurs at Kande Island.
Typical adult size: Maximum total length approximately 20 cm.
Sexual dimorphism: Breeding males are light blue dorsally with a yellow chin and chest. Females display a distinct and continuous diagonal stripe. The lower lobe of the caudal fin in females and non-breeding males is yellow.
Breeding: Territorial males defend a small cleared spawning site about 10 cm in diameter. Several breeding males may occur within a limited area, but the species does not form leks.
Special notes: An elongate species resembling Mylochromis gracilis and members of the genus Buccochromis. All members of Mylochromis share a diagonal flank pattern.
