Genus: Otopharynx
Biotope: Recorded at depths of 30–50 m in the southeastern arm of Lake Malawi.
Geographic distribution: Southern part of Lake Malawi; photographed at Kande Island. A similar deep-bodied form has been reported between Monkey Bay and Boadzulu Island in the southeastern arm of the lake.
Typical adult size: Up to about 16 cm total length.
Special notes: Catalogued as Otopharynx sp. ‘feather fin’ and described as resembling a large, deep-bodied Otopharynx decorus. It is characterized by a very small mouth and a short, rounded snout. A comparable deep-bodied form was previously referred to as O. sp. ‘argyrosoma deep’.
