Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Chiwanga Bay, Lake Malawi, Mozambique
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, recorded from 104–109 m, within the deep-living Placidochromis assemblage inhabiting subdued light conditions.
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi: Youngs Bay (Malawi), Wissman Bay (Tanzania), and Chiwanga Bay (Mozambique).
Special notes: Belongs to the deep-water Placidochromis radiation documented by Hanssens (2004), comprising numerous species living at depths exceeding 50 m and sharing a barred melanin pattern while differing in morphological characters. Placed in group 4 of the deep-water assemblage (species with 8–10 gill rakers).
